"So I guess you don't want to hear about how I'm going for my Green Card, huh? The one that'll let me become a US citizen so I can stay here with you and Nick?" he asked almost slyly, ignoring the pang her refusing to let him touch left. Now if only she would let it sink in, they could move past this without his patience snapping again. "That is what I need a caseworker for, after all. And Ms. Reed does a good job of helping me adjust to the process and my classes," he offered, using Samantha's last name so that he could demonstrate the formality between them.
It wouldn't help if he called her by her first name, but at least the woman was a lesbian; maybe that would help things when he slipped up later.

"That's a great excuse. Trying it out on me first to see if it will hold up to everyone else if you get asked?" she said, turning to face him as she ended up with her back against the door, away from him as far as she could go without actually going out the door.
As much as Asher wanted to believe him, there were still his actions to consider, and if his actions were anything to go by, then he didn't care for Asher or Nico at all, since he was gone all the time, with this 'case worker'.
"Actions speak louder than words, Damian," she said as she shook her head, refusing to look at him and instead looking at the floor.

"Then learn to read them better," he sighed, reaching out to touch her once more. He cupped her cheek in his hand, glad that she hadn't tried to escape yet. "If I could find another woman as beautiful as you in all the world, I still wouldn't leave you. I love you too much and I think you're absolutely adorable when jealous even though I probably have to sleep with one eye open after this." His other hand cupped her other cheek so that he was cradling her head in his hands so that she would meet his gaze, which was an intense and sparkling green. There was pain in them caused by her sharp words, amusment from her misunderstanding, and love that was almost to deep to put into words. "I want to be here with you without any restrictions, and since we don't want to get married, getting my Green Card was the next logical choice. So please believe me when I say that no, I'm not cheating on you with a lesbian."

Asher bit sharply on her lower lip, pressing back against the door even more fully as she turned her head in an attempt to break his grip, closing amethyst eyes. She just wanted to go now, leave everything and pretend things were back to they way they were before Nicolae, before Ian, before anything.
She was hurting, probably even more so than Ian realized or anyone realized, especially since she was so used to things going bad and people leaving her, she didn't know what to believe. What was hurting the most was that Ian couldn't have told her, had to keep it all a secret, letting her find out this way.
Of course, if the tables had been turned he would have been flipping out on the rumor, and would have probably already left her. Why was it that it seemed she was always the one who had to play the big kid, the one who always played nice? She was tired of it and with that her anger surged as violet eyes blinked open again.
Her hand found the knob as she looked back up at him, deftly twisting it before she sidestepped him. "I have waves to catch," she said, her voice just a tad louder than it had been, the anger in her making her eyes sparkle prettily.

Her blatant disregard for what he was saying brought an angry scowl to his face as he stumbled forward. Green eyes burning holes in her face, he moved faster then he had ever moved and hoist her into arms before tucking her against his side while he closed the door behind them with his free hand. If she wanted to act like a child, fine; he was going to treat her like one.
"No. You're not," he growled, voice low and full of warning. He wasn't going to hurt her, but if she struck out at him, then he would have to restrain her somehow-and probably in the most embarassing and humiliating way he could think of. Tossing her bony ass onto the couch in her living room, he dropped down on one knee in front of her and caged her with his arms. "Listen for once in your goddamn life Asher," he hissed. "Or else you might end something you'll wish you didn't."
That said, he dug through one of his pockets before pulling out his deck of Tarot cards and presenting it to her, expression serious.

It took a lot of will power for the fiery Hawaiian to not snap at him and lash out, instead pulling back as far into the couch as she could, away from him. She knew he wouldn't hurt her, but that wouldn't stop her from wanting him to feel at least physically what she was feeling at the moment. Asher was a tough nut to crack, but it always seemed that Ian was well aware of her emotions and what she was feeling, even now it seemed.
Violet eyes glared at him, tears brimming in the corners as the pain she was feeling but refused to voice shone through. There was a hint of desperation in there, a glimmer of hope and yet she still loved him, that much was obvious in her actions. Her eyes dropped from looking at his face to the cards in his hand, not quite sure what his actions and intentions were for. She knew how much those cards meant to him, that was his livelihood and something that defined him.
Her thoughts were swirling, too fast even for her to catch up to or try to hide the expressions flitting across her face, the main one being a stubborn confusion, still unsure of why he was here or bothering. She did have a niggling doubt, one that showed when she lifted her eyes from the cards in his hand to match him, not at all bothering to hide the thoughts as a tiny hand came to rest on top of the deck before she spoke.
"And what if the tables had been turned? Would you be willing to sit and listen to what I was trying to tell you? Or would you have just taken off completely and abandoned everything?" she questioned, watching him with an intensity that showed he had better tell the truth, for better or worse.

"I would have confronted you as soon as I started suspecting something," was his sharp reply and raised his eyebrows meaningfully, nodding that she take them from him. "You've never shied away from telling me what's what before, so I'm shocked that you let it get this bad before breaking something."
Ian closed her hand over the cards before removing the one that was holding them, still clutching hers in the other. "This is temprorary," he informed her, indicating the cards in her hand once more. "Until I can afford to buy you a ring. I've never trusted anyone with my cards before, so take care of them until I can get you something better."

The thoughts in her mind were bouncing around too rapidly when they suddenly came to a complete stop, violet eyes absorbing his words for a moment, going wide as she fought to think up a response but failed, eyes dropping down to look at their hands together and the cards he had trusted her with.
Asher very nearly arched an eyebrow at the whole thing, biting her lower lip. After all, hadn't she carried their son for nine months without any problems? She chewed on her lower lip for a moment as her eyes darted back up to take in his face, as if questioning if he was completely serious.

"Don't give me that look or I'll take them back," he told her archly, raising his own eyebrows in place of hers. "If I wasn't serious, I'd have let you walk out that door and never thought twice about it. So either take them willingly or I'll make you."
On the inside he was smiling, though; it had been while since he'd left her speechless.

Asher glared at him, her sharp tongue kicking right back into place. Well, at least her hand as she smacked him upside the head, her eyes filling with tears again as she turned away, hiding her face behind a curtain of hair as she put the cards on her lap, a sign that she was listening for now.
"Go fuck yourself," came the half-hearted response as she toyed with the barbell in her tongue while she thought of something else to say. "And when you're done being an oxymoron, stop being such a contradiction."

Ian rolled his eyes at her, smoothing the hair away from her face so he could look at her. He was smiling now, though, and this meant that he was relieved that she hadn't actually rejected him; he'd been nervous for a second. "All this posturing and that's the best you can come up with? I'm disappointed principessa," he said lightly, leaning in to kiss her temple. "You're adorable, I hope you know."

"Fuck you," she said, glaring at him even more with a silent debate raging inside her of just how she was going to make him act for a bit. She still wanted to go surfing, but that could wait for a bit, she decided, first things first.
At his last comment, she glared at him and crossed her arms, turning away from him in a pout. "Don't make me smack you," she said, sinking into the couch for a moment.

"I'm afraid that's your job princess," he replied lightly, leaning in to kiss the corner of her mouth. It seemed to get easier and easier to rile Asher up like this, and briefly he wondered when that had happened. Either she had really let her guard down, or he was just getting better at jabbing her with words, so to speak. "And if you warn me, I'll be expecting it. Besides, you love me too much."

Asher's eyes narrowed, the only sign that she moved before socking him with a nice right hook, crossing her arms over her chest and crossing one leg over the other as she looked down at him, eyebrow arched as if to say 'you asked for it'.
"If you say so," she said, pretending to put on an air. She wouldn't lie or say it aloud, but she did miss the physical closeness they'd shared, but the fact remained she was still hurting over the whole thing and how Ian had just seemed to laugh at her.

The force of the blow sent him back onto his ass, but he was grinning. In all honesty, it wasn't very often that Asher got mad at him like this, so it was a releif that she didn't keep everything inside, locked up tight. "You know, that's the first time you've touched me in a while," he said with the air of a long suffering housewife who just couldn't get any no matter what. Waggling his eyebrows at her suggestively, he licked his lips. "Wanna do it again?"
