It had been almost a month since her last encounter with the angel. She was completely back to her dull and lifeless way of seeing the world. All of her days started to blur together yet at the same time they seemed to stretch out and last forever.
She was back at the park. It was empty again and she needed time to think. There wasn't much she worried about any more because her life already seemed worthless anyway. This however this one little piece of paper had broken through and struck a chord of panic in her mind.
The note was for a parent teacher conference. At the moment she was failing all of her classes and apparently her teachers were worried considering she used to be a straight A student. So her father was supposed to go in to the school next week and talk to one.
She wasn't looking forward to telling her father about this but if he didn't show up they would just call her home and if they got a hold of him sh would be in even more trouble.
She hadn't really bothered to try and miss her fathers bad days but she wasn't exactly wanting to face the kind of wrath that this would evoke from him.
She crumpled up the piece of paper and leaned back. She held on to the chains of the swing so that she could lean more. her uniform was actually clean today but it was pretty wrinkled. Her long black hair fell behind her. She leaned back even farther trying to make it touch the ground like when she was a little kid.
"What do I do?" She questioned the air. Was she supposed to tell him or let them call. What was better one giant beating or two slightly smaller ones?
The swing swayed slightly and she closed her eyes. She wished she could be little again. When you were little sitting on a swing like this felt like you were flying. Plus the word was never this complicated to the eyes of a small child.

“You could always just runaway,” came a sudden voice. The swing beside the girl rattled for a moment, and there in the seat appeared the king of hell, Lucifer. The devil sat and casually took a drag from a cigarette. The smoke flowed from between his lips and disappeared upward. His free hand took hold of one of the chains of the swing and gently leaned back a bit as his eyes moved over to Miharu.
Lucifer’s appearance was one that no one would want to see at a park around children. His blond hair was slicked back and his body was mostly covered with a black leather trench coat. He wore black pants that went down to black polished shoes. He was the man mothers pointed to and told their children to stay away from.
The demon took a fancy of pestering (or what he would call giving advice to) humans who had affiliations with any of the angelic type. He had had his eye on this teenager for some time. He knew of her business. He knew where she went to school and what she did every day. He also knew of her home life. Lucifer was one to play upon weaker humans’ emotions. Some humans were just so easy to persuade, while others gave him more of a challenge.
“Isn’t that what most kids do? Runaway? Well, then you have the ones who commit suicide.” Lucifer took another drag from his cigarette.

Miharu jumped and almost lost her balance on the swing when the words were spoken. She clung to the chains of the swing and struggled to sit up. The swing swayed from side to side instead of back and forth as she flailed for those few moments.
After what seemed like an eternity but was only a couple of seconds, she was up straight and the swing wasn't trying to throw her any more. She looked over to see who had spoken and saw him sitting on the swing. She hadn't heard him come up to th swing set at all but then again she had been so lost in her own thoughts that it wouldn't have been hard for her to miss it.
He didn't really look like the best of people to be talking to but once again she really didn't care anymore. Besides it was broad daylight in a park, an abandoned park, but still a park. What was the worst that could happen?
"Running away is never a solution to a problem, just a way to avoid it." She straightened her glasses after realizing tat they were crooked. She should have taken them off after class but she had forgotten so they were aparently staying on.

“It can be a solution to a problem if you never return to it,” Lucifer remarked with a slight laugh. He took another long drag from his cigarette. Once again, the smoke whirled from his lips and went upward. “Running is some of the best exercise a person can do. What would it hurt to run away from your troubles at home? Better to avoid papa’s fists than sit still and let them hit you.”
The devil shook his head slightly and finished his cigarette. He flicked it away from him before pulling out another cigarette and placing it to his lips. He paused, pulling out a second before offering it to Miharu.
“Care for a smoke? They can be rather soothing when you have an upset mind.” Lucifer lit the cigarette between his lips with a black lighter as he waited for the girl’s response. “And one cigarette never killed anyone.”

Miharu listened to him talk and shook her head. "Problems always catch up with you. And most of them start out as something small. It maybe just once cigarette today, but maybe it's just a few drinks tomorrow. The next thing you know there's a pit of desperation and darkness that you can't climb out of no matter how hard you try."
She was depressed but she still had her morals and her beliefs. They weren't fading even though every hing precious to her in the world had been taken away, in fact they were the only thing she had left.
She regarded the man once again taking in his less than safe looking appearance. It actually took her a few moments to notice. "How did know about that?" She asked about his comment on he fathers abuse.

Lucifer tucked the rejected cigarette back into its place. He took a drag on his newly lit cigarette and puffed out a cloud of smoke. His eyes regarded Miharu for a moment as he thought. She seemed like a lot of teenagers. Lost, confused, and about to give up on life. Was that how they were making them nowadays? Happy children grow up to be depressed teenagers. It was sad really.
“I can just tell when someone has dealt with abuse. Your fears and worries just seep from every pore in that beautiful face of yours. It isn’t hard to tell that you have a troubled mind and perhaps a few tell tale markings. I just have an eye for these type of things.”
The demon looked away from the human girl as he thought. He took another drag. “You see, the trouble with being a teenager is getting improper guidance. Bad role models can really mess someone up. Abuse can lead to many problems down the road.”

She looked down at the ground. Was it really that obvious? Sure he claimed to have an eye for this but he was a complete stranger and he knew just like that. Had Cyan known? No, that much she was sure of. He wouldn't have been able to not Say anything about it if he knew, he wouldn't just leave her to suffer.
Her throat closed up a little. It still hurt so much to think about him. That was one of the reasons why she couldn't even think about leaving.
"I'm all he has. It's painful to lose the person you love."

“Love is such a terrible thing,” Lucifer commented. “Look how it binds you. Look how it controls you! You love those who hurt you the most. Those who betray you. You love the ones who hold up a fist against you. You love the ones who walk out on you and leave you. Love is such a horrible emotion.”
The devil’s eyes trailed back over to the teenager. “People use love to manipulate you. They make you believe in lies by telling you it’s from love. By telling you they love you. Never completely trust someone who tells you that they love you. Those are the ones who are more likely to spit in your face.”

"Love is not horrible. Love is kindness and caring and wanting what is best for someone regardless of what you want. It could never be horrible."
She said this confidently but was still looking down. She moved her legs so that the swing rocked gently. There was still the problem of the hurt she was feeling now. He was right on some accounts. With out love she wouldn't be feeling this right now. She wouldn't be feeling betrayed by her father and abandoned by Cyan. Of course It wasn't Cyan's fault that he had left her but still he left her all the same. But she loved them both and that completely overpowered the resentment she felt.

“It can be a wonderful feeling; I would know. Ultimately, however, the ones you love will betray you and use that overpowering emotion against you. You end up being a caged wild animal who instead of feeling freedom and happiness ends up feeling tormented as people laugh at your pain.”
Lucifer took a drag off of his cigarette. “As long as you live under the roof of your father’s, he’s going to continue to mar your skin with bruises. He is going to continue to treat you like a common dog. That I am positive. This is how abuse works. You stay with the one who abuses you because you love them and you want to please them. You also feel like there is no way out. There are always ways out of terrible situations. I can tell you, though, staying in that situation will not help a thing.”

"It doesn't matter if it helps or not." She was now letting out the dark thoughts that she normally kept in. Yes she loved her father but besides the fact that she felt it was wrong to run away form your problems she really didn't think that it mattered at all.
"He needs me so I'm going to be there for him. Besides not every one ends up betraying each other." That was the one thing that still made her a little bit happy. She had a relationship that was almost as perfect as it could get. Not to say that they hadn't had problems but they weren't that bad of ones considering. He had never done anything that ha hurt her, at least not or purpose. Thinking about Cyan made her heart ache and she felt a deep sympathy for her father. He was depressed because his wife had died and she was handling t a little differently but wasn't she the same now that Cyan was gone?
"Life is temporary anyway. I may end up with bruises but in the end it won't matter."

“Life is temporary, but everything you do in this life affects your next,” Lucifer said, his eyes scanning over the girl. She was rather sickening when he really thought about her actions. She allowed everyone to walk all over her. Her father got away with beating her, yet she made up excuses for him. The angel goes off and leaves her, and yet she still makes up excuses for him. Humans could be truly ignorant.
“You let everyone walk all over you, and for everyone you make excuses for their behavior. Oh, they are just coping with stress. Oh, they don’t mean what they do. Everyone has complete control over their lives. What they do, they do it on purpose no matter if it is voluntary or involuntary. I can tell you one thing, though; you continuing to allow everyone to walk on you will serve nothing for your afterlife.”
The devil took a long drag from his cigarette. His eyes moved away from Miharu and scanned the park. “The holiest will lie and deceive you. At least with the scum of the earth, you know exactly what they will do. You know exactly what they are thinking. There are no surprises with evil. You should abandon what hope you have for angels.”
Lucifer cared not if humans know of angels or demons. It was better if they knew, really. Though, God would probably bag a differ. He knew this human had to know of heaven and hell.
The demon took yet another drag and puffed out another cloud of smoke. He had not completely decided what he was going to do with this human girl yet. For now he would toy with her with his words.

“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil."
It was one of her favorite passages from Luke. She had read it quite often in days passed and it was memorized. Unfortunately her bible at the moment sat on her desk gathering as much dust as her camera. Like most things she didn't feel like making the effort to read.
She answered with scripture because really what better answer was there? Nothing that she could come up with on her own would describe her position to the stranger not that she necessarily needed to. But as she was already talking to him she may as well keep talking to him. She wanted to stay on this swing anyway, if she left she would have nowhere to go but home.

Lucifer gave a behemoth of a laugh. Scripture? Was that all the best this girl could give him? Just Bible verses. That’s how most answered questions about things relating to angels and demons and right or wrong. So, here she does the same. This was not the first time humans had fed him those lines, and perhaps it would not be the last.
“You answer me in lines written by men who were given those words by God? Have you ever questioned your Bible? Have you ever wondered if those men who wrote such verses were just making up stories? Or perhaps if their God was just blinding their eyes with promises? You read His lines, yet you will bow down to those below him. He only wants you to bow down to Him, yet you still bow down to that father of yours. Tsk, tsk, Miharu.”
The devil gave another laugh before taking another puff off of his cigarette. “You are blind like so many others. Of course, God does cater to you and to the rest of the world. He caters and allows all of mankind to destroy each other and to destroy the world. But that is beyond my point, sweet innocent girl. Have you not seen the truth in this world? Have you not seen what is really happening here? Of course not. People turn a blind eye to the truth when they do not want to realize it. You are all just pawns on His chessboard just like I was.”
Another laugh. Another puff. Lucifer rose to his feet and quickly stepped over in front of Miharu in a blur. He leaned down so he was directly facing the teenager; his face was right before hers.
“You need to learn to rebel and be your own person. Don’t just become another small screw in the whole machine. Be someone. Don’t allow them to lead you with fancy words in a book or pretty little angels who come down from heaven to impress you.”

Miharu gave another jump at the sound of his laugh. It was defiantly unexpected and her face flushed a little. It was a natural reaction to being laughed at. She also glared though was still looking down at the ground.
She had nothing to say to his words. They were thoughts that she had been wrestling with lately. Especially with the deaths of her mother and Cyan. She was so lost in thought about what e was saying that she didn't even think to question how he knew her name.
She raised her face to look up finally and let out a squeak of surprise. he was right there........
"There isn't any point in rebelling." She blinked up at him feeling a little uneasy. "Besides." She didn't notice she did it but switched languages. "soreraga watashi no bodei nisuru watashi no seishin ni kouka womotarasanai " It was something that her mother had said a lot before she died. Her mother had been such an incredible and kind woman.
